Flashback to Early Spring in Brooklyn

Here are a few pix from the walk we three took down to the Dumbo last month. The park is between the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges, about a 20 minute walk from where we live. Rosemary was super interested in all those rocks; she liked picking up a couple at a time and clacking them together.

Berkshires

It went straight from chilly spring to midsummer weather here (aka HOT) this weekend, and we were lucky enough to be in the Berkshires at Jason's folks' house with them, up in Massachusetts. It was over-the-moon gorgeous. Rosemary hasn't been there since Thanksgiving, so she discovered the whole place anew, inside and out. City kid that she is, she was hesitant about this whole grass thing, but she warmed up to it pretty quickly. She loved walking around the yard, up and down the hills, even early in the morning when the grass was chilly and wet.

In other news (sorry for these catch-all laundry lists of miniscule stuff, but things come and go so quickly I try to write them down), she's grown attached to a scruffy little stuffed cat she has, who she calls "Mao." He looks a lot like a bear, and in fact he looks a lot like her beloved Corduroy minus the pants - I don't know whether she's made the connection but the timing is right. Others words in frequent rotation this week are piggies (toes), tootsies (she will wave her feet around), bee, baby, cut, clock, book,  tricky, top. When she wants to hit the road she says "Go go" and when she really means business (like today at the doctor's office) she adds, "Go go - DOOR!" Hugs are in and given freely, kisses are bestowed only sporadically.

On Second Thought

A couple of days ago I asked Rosie whether she thought she might ever like to walk by herself.   She gave it a moment of consideration and then answered, "Nooooo." And then shook her head for emphasis. But today she seems to have reconsidered. This is from this morning:

Also this week, she has grown passionate about Corduroy, who she calls Coogalie. Her favorite parts are the "pop" of the button flying off the bed and pointing out Corduroy's two fuzzy ears when they stick out of his hiding spot. She also likes to do "cheers" with drinks or, more often, with food when you are eating the same thing as she is. But you have to look sharp, because if she likes the food and it is something small, like grapes, she will hold hers with pointer and thumb and then try to nab yours with the other three fingers, all the while cleverly maintaining eye contact with you.

Learning the Classics

This is a dramatic re-enactment.

Rosie surprised me this morning by filling in the blank in Madeline, which she sat all the way through on Monday and then asked me to read again and again. (She says "Boo! Boo!" which means "more.") Cordoroy was the big discovery last night.
